murpheyst wrote on Jan 25, '10
you have some great recopies too, you should post those on the serious horse grp site!! I have a couple I am going to put on there.

Thank you!! I came up with the design and have been selling some at the clinics we hold for Larry Hannon. I hate cleaning saddle pads, so these although they are 100% wool I can wash in my washer with woolite! More time to ride!

Review: Horsemanship Clinic
Rating: 5
Text: "A fantastic 3 days, food was unbelievably good, like going to a great restaurant. Larry Hannon is so talented with both horse and rider. We learned so much and look forward to doing it again. He is never critical and does not yell when you make mistakes, so patient, natural instructor, love the one-on-one instruction, the only way to learn. We improved so much and so did the horses. The hosts, Sharon and Dennis, are wonderful, their home is beautiful with an unbelievable view. The hot tub and pool were a welcome attraction at the end of a long, hot day. Dennis is a fabulous cook. Sharon made everyone feel at home and did everything she could to make this a great learning experience as well as a mini-vacation."

Oh, I'll be hauling lots of round bales of Coastal to them this winter. Plus we will have that portion of the fence shored up.

It's not easy to lease pasture. The landowners do not want to keep up the fence, and we sure do not want to put any of our money into it, and then lose it to someone else. It sucks. We're starting to look for something of our own, but that's tough also with land prices so terribly high.

Well, here's the rest of the story for this weekend! Headed for Cowboy Church this morning, stopped and grained and fed the two in the stud pasture. Went be the mare pasture, and you won't believe this, ALL OF MY MARES WERE GONE! Drove the pasture, and an old rickety wire gate with the rotten gate post was broken and down. They were in a neighboring pasture to the south of us. Went back home, loaded up fencing materials, Red, called the neighbor and left a message and headed back. Got there, and Sharon said, "You don't suppose we would be lucky enough that they would be back?"

Got there, unloaded and saddled Red while Sharon fixed us a sandwich we had stopped and got at AlSups. As I walked around the pickup, Sharon shouted "There they are, right out there in the Mesquites". I whistled, grabbed the bucket of mare cubes, and here they came at a run with Pistol, the Bell Mare, in the lead.

The neighbor showed up, we patched the hole with a couple of my horse panels I had taken with us. We're going to get together later this fall and mend it properly with a 10 ft gate and some metal posts. He is a good neighbor. I worked with their 3 children and their horses earlier this spring. He and his dad keep an eye on those mares for me, and he apologized for not calling me earlier last week when they noticed they were gone. There's an old saying in Ranch Country, "Good Fences Makes Good Neighbors" and vice versa.

So there you have our adventures for summer fun!

We went to water Skip and the mares in the Stud Pasture yesterday, and my stallion was gone! Found where he went out at a water gap into a neighboring pasture. Saw his tracks, and where he had run up and down the fence to get back in, but apparently got thirsty and went looking for water. We went into Crowell and checked with the Sheriff, and they had him in a pen at the rodeo arena. They found him in with the retired country agents mares about six miles northeast of Crowell, and 5 miles from our pasture. So we brought him out and put him in the round pen. Fixed not one but two water gaps today! Took the marres some hay and grain, and will take him back as soon as I get a round bale of coastal to leave there. The grass has basically burned up with all of the heat and little rain in the last couple of weeks up there. So, having to start feeding early this year!

Oh Man! You all have the luck of the Irish just like we do! Sorry to hear about that mess! We will be seeing you in a month. Time sure flies by fast. Good news about the clinic though.
